Spiced Sweet Apple Cake with Salted Caramel Orange Sauce

Caramel and apple are perfect together. It’s sweet meets tart. They are the most fantastic combination for Autumn in this delicious home baker’s sheet cake that uses a can of premium apple pie filling mixed into the batter. This addition makes the finished cake extra moist with a creamy texture. The cake will stay moist for several days. We serve this cake with a caramel sauce that is lightly infused with orange and just a salt hint.

Spiced Sweet Apple Cake with Salted Caramel Orange Sauce

Cake:
1 ½ cup Panhandle Milling Kamut® All Purpose Flour
½ cup Sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp salt
1 can Lucky Leaf Brand Premium Apple Pie filling
3 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp pumpkin pie spice
Salted Caramel Orange Topping:
1 cup Kraft Caramel Bits
½ cup Heavy Cream
1 tsp orange zest
½ tsp sea salt

Cake Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • In a medium bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the apple pie filling, eggs, and sour cream.
    Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until moist, about 2 minutes.
  • Spread into greased and floured 9-inch by 13-inch cake pan and sprinkle with the spices. Bake 30-35 minutes until a wooden toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool completely.

Caramel Sauce:

  • While the cake bakes, make the orange-infused salted caramel sauce.
  • Heat the cream and the caramel in a microwave-safe dish on medium setting for 2-3 minutes, stir well.
  • Add fresh orange zest and stir well. The sauce should be smooth.
  • Drizzle the sauce over the finished cake and serve, garnishing with additional sea salt if desired.
